[Pride 2017] Recommendations & Favourites

June 16, 2017 Discussion Post 0

We’re halfway done with pride month, and I had to do my usual recommendations post.

I tried to include as much variety as I could and I’m so happy about the way it turned out. I wanted to include more about the books I’m waiting to be released but I decided to put them all in the post for next week since there’s so much.

I also didn’t include everything I wanted to in this post because it was already so long, and that’s saying something. If you think I missed anything, comment below!

The Classics

These books may not be canonically considered classics yet, but I consider them essential reading for everyone. If you haven’t read all of these yet, you’re missing out.

If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo
Far From You by Tess Sharpe
Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan
This is Where it Ends by Marieke Nijkamp
George by Alex Gino
Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

New Releases

Tash Hearts Tolstoy by Kathryn Ormsbee
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (not out until June 27 but couldn’t resist!)
Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy
How to Make a Wish by Ashley Herring Blake
Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde
Star-Crossed by Barbara Dee

Totally Underrated

I haven’t seen as much buzz about these books as I’d like there to be so everyone, get reading!

Some Personal Faves

I have so many favourites that I couldn’t not include my own section for them.

Coffee Boy by Austin Chant
Proxy by Alex London
When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore
Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour
Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Twitter Recommended!

A lot of these definitely overlapped with books that I’d like to put above but I saved them until the bottom. I got all of these from tweeting out a question, asking people to choose one underrated book they’d recommend. You can find the question and replies here.

*I couldn’t include all the books because of time constraints on drafting this post so I highly recommend going through the thread above for all the recommendations!

I haven’t read all of these books so I can’t vouch for the representation in them. If you’re interested in one, I highly recommend you look for ownvoices reviews first.
