2017 Diverse Reads Book Challenge: Goals and My ‘Must Read’ List!

Posted January 1, 2017 by Shelly in Challenges / 4 Comments

Now that it is officially 2017, I’ve decided to do a little post sharing some releases I’m definitely reading this year as well as my tentative goals. There’s still time to join the challenge as it’s running all year and I won’t close sign ups until the end of 2017!

Because the challenge is completely personal and based on your own reading, I’ve decided to just share my goals and then a few books that I am making the time for on my list!

My Reading Goals

In 2016, I’ve read around 150 books (not including comics) with 65+ of them being diverse books. For 2017, I want that number to be at least 75, half of my average reads for the year, but I am hoping to get to 90 or higher.

On twitter, I also said that for every mediocre white dude I have to read for my classes, I would read 2 diverse books (and one has to be #ownvoices but I will aim to make them both). I’m going to stick to that commitment and I’ll be using my bullet journal to keep track of my reading.

Some Books I’ll be Making Time For:

*clicking on book images will take you to the Goodreads page!

Also I’m sorry for this terrible formatting, I apparently don’t know how to make a clear grid. This list is only 23 books and I will definitely read more, these are just the ones that I missed in 2016 and my most anticipated 2017 releases!

Not Your Sidekick (Not Your Sidekick, #1) Something in Between The Sun Is Also a Star Marian American Street Our Own Private Universe The Hate U Give You're Welcome, Universe The Gauntlet How to Make a Wish Flame in the Mist (Flame in the Mist, #1) Ramona Blue  When Dimple Met Rishi The Love Interest Tash Hearts Tolstoy Little & Lion The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue The Library of Fates Perfect Ten You Don't Know Me But I Know You You Bring the Distant Near Playing With Matches Noteworthy

What books are on your list? What are you goals for the challenge? Let’s chat in the comments!

  1. I just got an ARC of The Gentlemen’s Guide to Vice and Virtue and I am SO EXCITED! And THUG is definitely the best book of the year. I’ve already decided 😀

Also, all these diverse books have the best covers. How awesome is that?!?!

  2. So many pretty books on your grid!! I want to read most of them, actually, or have already read them. My most anticipated books from your grid at T.H.U.G., The Gauntlet, and When Dimple Met Rishi!
