Top Ten Tuesday – Top Ten Best Books of 2016

So 2016 was not a good reading year for me. A lot of things factored into the why of it but I somehow only ended up reading 104 books and listening to 11 audio books. I also DNFed 21 books which is a new high for me (for reference by 2015 numbers were 131/23 and 12 DNFs). Hell, I even failed at my own read-a-thon. But out of the books I did read, there are a good number that have become new favorites, especially these 2016 releases.

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater: I couldn’t have asked for a more fulfilling conclusion to my favorite series.
The Long Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes: If for some reason you haven’t read this series yet PLEASE CHILD FIX YOUR LIFE. It’s the perfect mix of Veronica Mars meets Scandal and I love the characters so damn much and the FREAKING PLOTTING. You will not find a more twisty turny mind blowing thriller.
My Lady Jane by Jodi Meadows, Cynthia Hand and Brodi Ashton: This alternative history is magical, witty and will fill you with utter joy. Even if you don’t normally dig historical fictions, I’d still recommend this.
The Only Thing Worse Than Me Is You by Lily Anderson: This is probably my all time favorite contemporary. Banter filled hate to love nerd heaven.
Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig: I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. The writing is wonderful, Flynn stole my heart and I just want to shove this book into the hands of everyone because it delighted me so much.
A Gathering of Shadows by Victoria Schwab: Okay this one isn’t going to surprise anyone. This world and these characters are my everything and AGOS pretty much destroyed my life.
This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills: SQUAD GOALS. Seriously. The friendships in this book are AMAZING. They all love each other so much I adored it. The romance was also A+ and I saw so much of myself in Sloane it was impossible for this book not to steal my heart.
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab: This book is so gloriously dark and feelsy and all about what it means to be a human and the monstrous things humans are capable of. If you only read one Schwab YA, make it this one.
The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid: You need this sci-fi in your life. Amazing, fierce as hell, ass-kicking MC, strong writing, and completely unpredictable.
The Midnight Star by Marie Lu: Okay this book broke my heart in the best ways. If you haven’t picked up this villain origin story trilogy, do the thing.
