Event Dates: February 20, 12AM EST – February 22, 12AM EST

Hosted by: Alexa (Alexa Loves Books), Cee (The Novel Hermit), Hazel (Stay Bookish) & Mel (The Daily Prophecy)

From Alexa’s site, “The Love-a-Thon is an event dedicated to spreading positivity and love. It’s time dedicated to visiting other bloggers/Instagrammers/BookTubers, leaving a comment or two, making new friends and fostering positivity among the members of our amazing community. As in the previous years, the event will include mini challenges, Twitter chats and giveaways galore!”

Sounds like fun, right? To start the awesome event, participating bloggers are filling out this questionnaire to introduce ourselves.

QUESTIONNAIRE

What’s your name?

Shelly

Where in the world are you blogging from?

Canada yo!

How did you get into blogging in the first place?

I joined GoodReads first and noticed that so many cool reviewers had blogs. It looked like something I wanted to do, so I joined along!

How did you come up with your blog name?

Octavia did the awesome naming, I just hopped on board.

What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?

I tend to read a lot of contemporary YA, but I am trying to branch out this year. I hope to review more graphic novels and I think I’m starting to like NA.

What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?

I tend to mainly do reviews & blog tours, but we do host some events. I’m co-hosting The Diversity Book Challenge with Mishma. Octavia and I will also be hosting ARC April & ARC August this year! Basically, we do tons of cool stuff.

Best blogging experience so far?

It hasn’t happened yet but I will be attending BEA this year and gahhh I can’t wait! But actual things I’ve already done; I love participating in blog tours and going to author events. I particularly enjoyed Fierce Reads last year. I got to meet Leila Sales & Leigh Bardugo and I met the lovely Amanda and now I have an awesome group of fellow Toronto bloggers where we meet around once a month and just hang out. Most recently, we went to an awesome Pierce Brown signing. You can read more about the event on Jesse’s recap!

Favorite thing about the blogging community?

From my experiences, I love how kind everyone is. I love that we can also have intelligent conversations about the industry and every aspect of YA. The community is so grand and amazing, it’s hard to describe it fully.

Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?

I write sometimes. I also record a YA podcast titled Today in YA which I am particularly proud of; I think it’s great so far. I got to interview some awesome people and I’m looking forward to all the new opportunities it will bring!

Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?

I am strangely addicted to lipsticks. I don’t wear a lot of makeup but I feel soooo confident in a lipstick. Particularly dark purple.

What would your dream library look like?

A separate room with a comfy couch and a reading chair and all the book pillows/throws from my favourite society6/redbubble stores. Seriously bloggers, stop designing the most amazing stuff!

Author you want to meet and sit down to tea with?

Definitely Dahlia Adler. She is amazing and it’s one of my dreams to meet her.

Are you participating in Loveathon? If so, link me your blog! Let’s chat in the comments!

  1. Shelly, this excitement for “Canada yo” is a lie — IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY ON THE FEBRUARY OF SOMETHING SOMETHING, DID YOU NOT FEEL TICKED AT THE WINTER-Y SNOW WHEN YOU HAD TO SHOVEL? Who are you and what have you done to Shells…

  2. Cee

YES, SHELLY. YES. YOU HAVE THIS OUT. YOU DIDN’T DISAPPOINT. (Tho, lbr, comic talk has absolved you of any judgement I may have of you.)

THIS YEAR WILL BE FULL OF GREATEST FOR YOU. I CAN FEEL IT.

Speaking of lipsticks, I really need to invest in a blood red one…because of reasons. ;))))

  3. I so feel you about all the Society6 stuff! I want to buy it all haha I’m also going to check out your podcast as I just got into listening to them! Loved all your answers!!

  4. Yay, Loveathon has just begun for me here in Scotland. Love the sound of Arc April, I will watch out for that. Enjoy Loveathon, my post is : wp.me/p4CHeD-KD
    Happy Reading and commenting.
    Amanda.

  5. YAY FOR THE DIVERSITY CHALLENGE!!! 😀
And I can’t wait for BEA myself!!! I will be practically flying to the other end of the world! 🙂 And I get to meet everyone! I am so pumped up!
Oh man, Society6 is going to be the death of me! I am more of an artprint addict myself, and I am going broke because of them!

  6. Hey Shelley *waves excitedly*
That podcast sounds AWESOME – I’m checking it out right now!~ 🙂
I’m SUPER JEALOUS that you’re attending BEA – I hope you enjoy it very much and meet lots of other blogger friends, as well as find great new books! 🙂
    Hope you’re enjoying LoveAThon! 😀

    • I’m the opposite, I wear lipstick too much! And haha I get that a lot- it’s because Octavia’s in the US plus I tend to follow more American blogs 😛

  7. Hey there – it’s great to meet you! Have you checked out NYX’s matte lip cream? They have an awesome purple shade you might like. 🙂

  8. I also started blogging after I discovered Goodreads. Looks like a lot of people started that way! How exciting that you are going to BEA! I agree about your description of the community. I feel the same way, especially after having a fun event like this 🙂

    Thanks for joining!

  9. Ooh, I admire you for the purple lipstick! I haven’t really worn bold lip colors (tend to stick to pinks and neutrals), but I would like to try reds and maybe bright pink. Also, I definitely think sitting down to tea with Dahlia would be fun! She is so nice, and I love reading her tweets 🙂 What kind of NA are you into (lighter side versus angsty side)? I have a few recs!

    • Bold lipsticks are sooo fun- you feel like nobody can mess with you when you wear it, it’s great! I haven’t read too many NAs, I’m mostly intrigued by their premises, some of them sound so unique! I’m more into light ones if you have a few recs! 🙂

  10. Thanks for stopping by my blog — and yay, fellow Canadian blogger! I wish that I lived in Ontario … it seems like all the Ontario bloggers have so much fun when they get together! I honestly don’t know how many of us West Coasters there are, but maybe we should start a club too … hee hee!

I wish that I had the confidence to rock lipstick, but I always feel strange when I wear it. But I LIVE for lip balm though … can’t be caught without it!

Also, I loooooove that you got to meet Leigh Bardugo!!!! I loved the Grisha series, and I am currently reading Six of Crows. She’s amazing, and is absolutely on my favourite author list!

  11. that dream library sounds incredible! i absolutely love bookish throw pillows & other mercy, especially from bookwormboutique and evieseo/eviebookish!

  12. Honestly, another Canadian blogger through #LoveAThon, I’m floored! I find it almost non-existent to find Canadian bloggers, so I’m happy when I see more! Especially from around T.O.! I honestly just bought a throw pillow from one the book bloggers society6… my boyfriends going to kill me when he sees it! I’m getting addicted! 🙂

  13. HELLO! I can’t believe you’re going to BEA this year *ENVY* but I hope you have the bestest time ever, and you get piles and piles of books. I’m going to be there. Someday, when I get out of India, so see you there in a few years!

SO glad to have found your blog! I’m a new follower, and I can’t wait to come back for more!

    Aditi @ http://athousandwordsamillionbooks.blogspot.in/

  14. Hi Shelly! It’s nice to meet you. =D

My blog isn’t quite established yet, but I’m looking forward to doing book tours and stuff too. It all looks like so much fun, and getting to meet fellow book worms in person. Gah!

    I hope you’re enjoying this year’s Love-A-Thon!

  15. I’m so jealous that you’re going to BEA this year! I wanted to go so bad but the dollar is absolute crap… maybe next year!

And thanks for the link to my recap 😀

  16. Heyo from a fellow Canadian!

And Shelly, I so feel you on the lipstick. I used to dance (in Toronto, actually!) and wearing lipstick to class made me feel so much more confident. Now when I wear it to work I feel like I can conquer the word!
