arc august

Hello lovelies!!!! I am very excited to announce that ARC August is coming back for it’s THIRD year!

For those of you new to RSR let me explain ARC August. And to answer your first question, no it is not a month where ARCs of your most anticipated books rain from the heavens and fall directly into your laps.

Despicable Me Sad Face

But don’t be sad! It is a pretty cool (I’m biased) event even if things don’t rain from the heavens!

I started ARC August my first (was it really my first?!) year of blogging, as an attempt to get caught up on my ARCs and get my Netgalley ratio up since it was completely in the shitter (think 32% people) and it wasn’t changing any time soon. And, like they say, misery loves company so I invited my fellow book nerds to tackle their ratios and piles with me and it was GLORIOUS! Not only did we have fun, I really made a dent in my pile! So I’m bringing ARC August back and I am inviting all of YOU to look over those ARCs and show them who’s boss.

Rules:

The rules are very simple

  • It may be a physical ARC or eARC but it MUST be an ARC
  • Yes it can be an ARC that has already released; as long as it’s an ARC I’m not going to nit pick really
  • HAVE FUN WITH THIS! Feeling like you are being “forced” to read is the best way turn a fun event into a yucky obligation.
  • Update post! I personally will do a post for each Saturday in August but that’s just me. You can update once a week, every other week or once for the whole darn event. This update can be in the form of a blog/tumblr post, vlog, link to your “ARC August 2015” shelf or even an instagram pic! I want to make this as easy and low pressure as possible for you.

Treats:

In my post for August 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, and September 5th I will choose ONE participant (and by participant I mean a REAL “I read these ARCs this week for the challenge” participant) to win ONE ARC from my shelves. Which ones are up for grabs you ask? These!!! In order of giveaway just so you know 😉

For as long as Fei can remember, there has been no sound in her village, where rocky terrain and frequent avalanches prevent residents from self-sustaining. Fei and her people are at the mercy of a zipline that carries food up the treacherous cliffs from Beiguo, a mysterious faraway kingdom.

When villagers begin to lose their sight, deliveries from the zipline shrink and many go hungry. Fei’s home, the people she loves, and her entire existence is plunged into crisis, under threat of darkness and starvation.

But soon Fei is awoken in the night by a searing noise, and sound becomes her weapon.

Richelle Mead takes readers on a triumphant journey from the peak of Fei’s jagged mountain village to the valley of Beiugo, where a startling truth and an unlikely romance will change her life forever…

When seventeen-year-old Lilliana Young enters the Metropolitan Museum of Art one morning during spring break, the last thing she expects to find is a live Egyptian prince with godlike powers, who has been reawakened after a thousand years of mummification.

And she really can’t imagine being chosen to aid him in an epic quest that will lead them across the globe to find his brothers and complete a grand ceremony that will save mankind.

But fate has taken hold of Lily, and she, along with her sun prince, Amon, must travel to the Valley of the Kings, raise his brothers, and stop an evil, shape-shifting god named Seth from taking over the world.

A high-concept, fantastical espionage novel set in a world where dreams are the ultimate form of political intelligence.

Livia is a dreamstrider. She can inhabit a subject’s body while they are sleeping and, for a short time, move around in their skin. She uses her talent to work as a spy for the Barstadt Empire. But her partner, Brandt, has lately become distant, and when Marez comes to join their team from a neighborhing kingdom, he offers Livia the option of a life she had never dared to imagine. Livia knows of no other dreamstriders who have survived the pull of Nightmare. So only she understands the stakes when a plot against the Empire emerges that threatens to consume both the dreaming world and the waking one with misery and rage.

A richly conceived world full of political intrigue and fantastical dream sequences, at its heart Dreamstrider is about a girl who is struggling to live up to the potential before her.

A world battered by climate shift and war turns to an ancient method of keeping peace: the exchange of hostages. The Children of Peace – sons and daughters of kings and presidents and generals – are raised together in small, isolated schools called Preceptures. There, they learn history and political theory, and are taught to gracefully accept what may well be their fate: to die if their countries declare war.

Greta Gustafsen Stuart, Duchess of Halifax and Crown Princess of the Pan-Polar Confederation, is the pride of the North American Prefecture. Learned and disciplined, Greta is proud of her role in keeping the global peace, even though, with her country controlling two-thirds of the world’s most war-worthy resource — water — she has little chance of reaching adulthood alive.

Enter Elián Palnik, the Prefecture’s newest hostage and biggest problem. Greta’s world begins to tilt the moment she sees Elián dragged into the school in chains. The Prefecture’s insidious surveillance, its small punishments and rewards, can make no dent in Elián, who is not interested in dignity and tradition, and doesn’t even accept the right of the UN to keep hostages.

What will happen to Elián and Greta as their two nations inch closer to war?

So who’s in? Are you ready to get your ARC TBR list in shape? Well get those sign up post started and link it below! Remember, be as optimistic (20 ARCs?!) or laid back (3 or 4? whatevs) as you want with your goal. Just remember that this is your chance to get that list of yours together and that Netgalley ratio UP!

  1. Ohhh yay! So glad you lovelies are doing this again this year!! I had a blast last year and I really help me clear out my summer requests for all those gorgeous fall/winter ones. I am crossing my fingers fro Awakened! I don’t know how I managed to miss that this year. Thanks so much for hosting this fun times.

    • Awakened flew under my radar up until BEA! When I realized it would be there and how AWESOME it sounded I had to have it! Good luck!!

  2. I wish that I had ARCs to read to join you! But good luck to all the winners, these books look really good and can’t wait for them to come out!

  3. This sounds like a great idea and I think I’m going to attempt it as well! My netgalley is at a lowly 27% but I’m still making my way through the books I’ve been approved for so hopefully by the start of August it will be even higher

  4. Oh man. I need this (hovering around the 32% mark myself) but this is the kind of booster I need! If I even get ONE read it’ll be an improvement over this past month >.>

  5. I’m in! I just recently started my blog and opened my NetGalley account. I’ve gotten approved for several books, but have only gotten two reviews done thus far. At 40% and hoping to bring it up to 100% but the end of the challenge!

    • I’ll ask Shelly if she’ll make a new button!! I completely forgot about it! I remember you asking in the beginning of the year if we were and I’m so excited we decided to go for it! 😀

  6. So excite! I did this last year and loved it! Really helps me get through all the older ARCs I have sitting in cyber space :/

  7. […] So Read.Sleep.Repeat is hosting ARC August again for their third year in a row and I’m excited to be joining in the fun. What it is, is a month of reading through your Advance Reader Copies pile throughout the month of August. Did I mention there will be prizes too! You can sign up for the event here! […]

  11. I’m joining along with Crystal! I could use this to kick myself in the butt and get to all my EW and NG eARCs! No excuses.

Cannot wait to read along with you all!!

    • You have no idea how happy I am you and Crystal are joining! Maybe you can help me stay on track? Maybe? WE SHALL SEE!!

  12. There, I have signed up! I checked the list I made for last year and realised some of the books from then are still on my list. Oooops.

  13. […] Read, Sleep, Repeat is hosting the 3rd annual ARC August. An event to inspire us to actually read some ARCs. I have enough that I could only read ARCs for the next year, so I’m definitely participating. Plus, I need to get my NetGalley rating WAY up, because I’ve been truly awful over there. […]

    • Thanks! I have the linky working again, just do a quick sign up post, or make a dedicated Goodreads shelf and link it above!

  14. Awesome – Love this idea! We just signed up and posted! Will be sharing the ARCs we will be reading on AUG 1st because I need to get my 2 other bloggers to make their choices! Yes, I signed us up without even asking them! Ha, mandatory participation! LOL

    • But, in your defense, this is a GOOD LIFE DECISION for your co-bloggers! Good luck on picking! I can’t wait to see what all you decide to read. 🙂

  15. […] I was checking my e-mail and my subscription to Thoughts on Tomes & saw her post of the ARC August. I was all on that. When I first started blogging I was clueless to everything and knew nothing about Netgalley. I had like no followers, so I requested so many books thinking I would only get a select few due to the lack of following I had. Then, I found Christy and was so lucky and got into her blog. Then, I was able to use that info and the approvals when through the roof. So, now I’m stuck with so many old ARCs and this Read-A-Thon is perfect to get those out of the way. If you guys are interested in ARC August you can check out the original post over @ Read.Sleep.Repeat. […]

  16. Love this idea, thank you for creating it. I’m looking forward to taking part and i hope i can keep to my list as much as possible.

    Gill

    • All fixed! No clue what was happening though. :/ The code was still there but obviously it just didn’t feel like working today.

  17. […] First, I have to apologize for the hiatus! I’ve been so, so busy this month, and the crazy doesn’t stop until August 3rd. But I wanted to get everyone excited (and involved?) about this cool new activity I found! It’s called ARC August, and it’s a month-long initiative of getting your ARCs read in a timely manner! I have a lot of ARCs to get going with, and this is exactly what I need to make a dent in my TBR. Nothing like a great big group of people helping you along. If you’d like to join, you can find the original post at Read.Sleep.Repeat. […]

  18. This is my first time signing up, wish I had heard of this the other two years, I always have to many ARC’s..lol.

  19. I’m so happy to be joining this! I was already planning on reading a bunch of ARCs during the Bout of Books Read-A-Thon, but why not do it during the entire month! Thanks for this! 🙂

  20. […] to the whole concept of ARCs. Until recently I didn’t have any and so when ARC August hosted by Read.Sleep.Repeat was first brought up I knew that I couldn’t participate. WELL, that is not the case anymore! In […]

  21. […] I only saw ARC August yesterday, and the first thought I had was, “THIS IS PERFECT.” If you didn’t know, I’m aiming to clear my eARCs before I go to college. So why not join other people and put pressure on myself to actually do it? You can read more over at Read.Sleep.Repeat’s announcement post. […]

  22. […] Thanks to The Writing Duo I recently found out about ARC August. I think this is a great idea as my ratio on NetGalley is pathetic. I really need to get it back up. You can find all the information on ARC August here. […]

  23. I signed up today as I have quite a large NG & EW Pile to read and review. Then there are the BEA ARC’s. I know that I need to read them, review them. I’m hoping to read 15, but think I will only manage five because of Real Life. This sounds like fun though.

  24. […] And a living, breathing thing that thrives on my fear. And just then, I happened to stumble upon ReadSleepRepeats’s  announcement post for the ARC August thingy which is exactly what it sounds like. All of August, we try to tackle our […]

  25. It’s not too late to sign up is it? I really need the extra motivation to get through my stack, and I love this idea! I’m going to aim for 8. That’s a little ambitious, but there are 8 ARCS in my pile that I really want to get to, so maybe I’ll get them all read.

    • I’ve opened sign ups back up. Just get your link into this post before midnight tonight and you can totally participate!

  26. Doh! I forgot to schedule my sign up (I thought I scheduled it for Friday but turns out I didn’t :/) and the sign up’s are closed 🙁 Am I still allowed to sign up?!

    • Just publish your sign up post and make sure to at least link up your weekly updates so we know! Just follow along with the hashtag with any updates and you should be okay!
