I can’t believe 2014 is over! It’s been a year packed full of awesome highs and crappy lows but above all it was one full of some really awesome books! I decided to do this post separate from our recap survey thanks to my coworker that had the nerve to ask how much I spend on books in a year and if I have a budget. Thanks to Delicious Library I have a very pretty and closely accurate way of showing exactly how much damage I did to my wallet in the name of reading during 2014! I purchased (in varying formats) 92 books!

In my defense I shop when I’m sad..and happy…and angry. O_O

Anywho! Since DL instantly imports the price for each book I can see exactly how much I spent and what the replacement cost would be total if something happened to my babies.

(again, in my defense, a ton came from BookOutlet so it’s closer to 900)

and what author I worship the most:

(in my defense…eh I’ve got nothing. These peeps rock!)

Ok, in hindsight maybe this post was a bit telling of my spending habits when it comes to books. But it could be worse right? There are far worse things to be addicted to than books! And look at all the awesome books I actually managed to read in 2014!

Books Read In 2014

I love my kind of logic!

How much damage do you think you did in 2014? Any gems amongst those? Tell me in the comments below!

  1. This is amazing, but my question is can you not tell the app what price you paid for the book? I just ordered a bunch of books from book outlet. I like the idea of something that would track my spending. My next question should be out of the 92 books you bought how many did you read?

  2. I can put the prices in but I haven’t figured out how to make it adjust in the final summary. :/ And out of the 92 I bought this year I read 17….but a total of 52 read in the year so I’m counting it as a win and moving on lol!

  3. I loved this post! I think I don’t dare look at how much I spent on books this year. I’m afraid of the number. Plus I don’t have a helpful program like you do to determine it. I have to agree that there are much worse things to be addicted to than book buying. And a little book buying never hurt anyone either. I’ll try and do this exercise myself. I think I still have my receipts somewhere.

  4. I tried keeping all my receipts one year but the number I was collecting just scared me! I am going to try and keep a better handle on my spending next year though. Or else I’m going to run out of space!

  5. OHMYGOD! I don’t even want to think about how many books I bought in 2014 and what I spent on them. It’ll just make my wallet sad!I have this problem called Book Outlet and this other problem called Half Price Books and this other problem called Kindle Deals. I have watched my bookshelf explode this year. I really should feel more sorry but I agree, there are worse things to be addicted to!
