At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance—and the enchanting music that inspires one young woman to put her life back together.

The first book I read by Hoover was Ugly Love and while I didn’t love, and barely liked it, I didn’t really consider Hoover as a “go to” author for NA/Adult. So naturally I went into Maybe Someday with no real expectations. I needed an NA book, this one was available on Overdrive so…

Who would have thought I would have come out on the other side absolutely loving it?! Even harder to believe? This is a book most people are not going to like, most people are going to hate our “swoony” guy MC Ridge and get annoyed with Sydney but I LOVED THEM!! They were imperfect sure, and they had qualities I would find hard to appreciate in IRL people but somehow their imperfections and mistakes just made them enduring instead of unbearable.

Sydeny, poor sweet I love you so much, Sydeny. Just was hit in the face with the reality that her boyfriend of however long is cheating on her….with her best-freaking-friend! Talk about a super bitch move.

KHart Die bitch

One thing leads to another and other things happen and Sydney winds up moving in with Ridge (he has a spare room for rent anyway) who lives in the same complex as her and her now ex best friend. That sounds like “reality tv” episode doesn’t it? I promise it’s not ok?! Yes it has drama and some of it is a bit over the top but I promise it’s more of a “train wreck can’t look away” kind of way. Not in a “oh my gosh I’m secretly being filmed on an episode of Jerry Springer” kind of way!

Umm I’m sorry that got out of hand…. Lets move on shall we!

The plot, as I’m sure you can tell, is full of the normal drama and angst you typically find within the NA genre. You have two people who “want” each other but can’t “have” each other, who go through a series of ups and downs, twist and turns just to see what’s in front of them after 200 pages. But somehow Hoover has taken these elements we see so often and made them enjoyable again.  I’m not saying it’s going to be enjoyable and fun for everyone but I highly suggest it if you’re in the mood for NA but want something that feels a bit fresher.
