How I discovered blogging and how it’s changed me.

Blogging had always been one of those things I never saw myself committing to because I didn’t think I was built for it. Until I did. I didn’t even like Goodreads back in 2011 when I was using LivingSocial Books because I thought it was oh-so-pretentious and in-your-face with all the bookish info. Eventually, I had to join the community as the Facebook app I was using shut down and it was summer which meant I was reading a lot and could do with a little record keeping. So I joined Goodreads and perusing reviews there led me to the popular reviewers who apparently blogged. I was dumbfounded. I knew there were photography blogs, movie blogs, and a whole another entity which is tumblr yet, the thought of a book blog never crossed my mind. I decided to take the plunge and start small when I created a starter book blog on tumblr. I liked it, did some research on how book blogs work (which honestly, flew over my head at the time) and started blogging fully in November 2011. And that’s when everything went changed. In the years that I’ve been blogging, I went from reading for blog tours to reading for myself, from posting memes to features of my own, from a maximal blog design to a more minimal look, and from watching from the sidelines to fully participating in the blogging community. I matured in a lot of ways and I think the community did, too. I realized that I don’t have to do something just because everybody else is doing it. That it’s more about your personality than just churning reviews after reviews. That life is not always predictable. I started learning Photoshop.  So there was that one time I almost learned Visual Basic in high school and now I’ve ended up learning HTML and CSS all on my own (though my knowledge is limited).Like everything else in life, blogging isn’t easy. There are days when I just want to read books, and days when I don’t post anything because I’m busy procrastinating. Things are not always sunny side up in the blogosphere yet the best of it all is unmatched. So here’s to those who blog, who find the time to write their thoughts down, to those who persevere, and to Shelly who’s been blogging for more than a year. She’s awesome.Happy Blogoversary, Shelly! Time to party!
