Stop & Chat

This week’s discussion is about something we all have to suffer through….

COVER CHANGES!

Now someone proposed this topic a while ago but apparently the email auto deleted so I can’t give do credit. I’m sorry whoever you are, but GREAT topic!

Recently I found out that the cover to Antigoddess by Kendare Blake had been changed from this:

Antigoddess

to this for the paperback version:

Antigoddess PB

Now this is going to be so weird to say but…I like the new cover better. Yes the lone girl on the front is a little played out (do people still say that?) but I dig it! Especially the font. I’m no  font snob but goodness that’s a pretty creepy font! But I’m getting distracted! Shelly and I sat down and chatted about how we feel about cover changes and let’s just say we had some pretty strong feelings.:

Octavia H: Do you want to discuss cover changes mid-series?! Someone submitted that topic AGES ago and I think it’s actually a really good topic!

Shelly Z: oooOOOOOO that’s good!

Shelly Z: Antigoddess is one of those!

Octavia H:I think that’s the only cover change I’m for!!!! I actually like that so much!

Shelly Z: I LOVE the cover re-dos for Anna and the French Kiss, they are SO GOOD! Although the original covers did match the series..

Shelly Z:But the new covers make the series seem a little more mature and interesting!

Octavia H: I haven’t seen the new covers but now I must check!

Shelly Z: the pink and orange ones!! The old covers make it look a little MG

Octavia H: That’s why I never even contemplated picking them up! The covers were so cutsey and ugh inducing

Shelly Z: I know, right? I got my copy of Anna through a giveaway but I loved it so I HAD to buy Lola

Shelly Z: so, are we agreed? Old covers with people on them seem too childish and the new covers are simple but cute

Octavia H: The cover for Transparent by Natalie Whipple was a HORRIBLE redesign to me!

Shelly Z: OMFG YES!

Shelly Z: SO.TERRIBLE.

Octavia H: lol yes we agree!!

Shelly Z: it just looks so BLEGH, the orangey cover wasn’t great but at least it wasn’t awful!

Octavia H: Right?!

Shelly Z: YES!

Octavia H: The 1st cover was eh by that second cover was “gauge my eyes out” bad! It’s so cutsey and fluffy and it MAKES NO SENSE!

Shelly Z: I KNOW, IT MAKES NO FREAKIN SENSE

Octavia H: If I were invisible why the hell would I wear clothes that you could see?! How does that even make sense?! Why would I do that!?

Shelly Z: I know, and WHY WOULD I WEAR SUNGLASSES???

Shelly Z: IN FREAKIN’ PUBLIC AND ICE CREAM, LIKE I DON’T UNDERSTAND

Octavia H: YES!!!

Octavia H: And why did NO ONE in the ice cream parlor question this?! How did they take her order?! WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE!

Octavia H: Another cover re-do I loathe….The Art of Wishing by Lindsay Ribar!

Shelly Z: it makes no sense!!

Shelly Z: wait let me look it up

Octavia H: I LOVED the first cover (and own the hardcover) because it was different from your typical YA paranormal cover! Then they add in that darn cotton candy color scheme and two stereotypical kids on a cover?!

Shelly Z: OOO THE FIRST COVER IS GORGEOUS

Octavia H: I mean it’s a story about a GENIE dagnabit! Stop ruining genies!! STOP IT!

Shelly Z: OMFG WHAT IS THAT EVIL!!

Shelly Z: OH GOD, SO SAD SO SAD

Octavia H: Told you! I loved the “oh I’m just chilling with a genie talking about my dreams and wishing…oh and yes he plays guitar but whatevs we’re just chilling” cover!

Octavia H: It broke my heart! Ugh!

Shelly Z: UGGHHH

So have you come across any cover changes you absolutely love? Any that make you want to bleach your eyes so you never have to see it again? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments!
