For the month of November Stop & Chat will be a week-long discussion, including some post by my fantabulous blogger friends. It will always start with my post on Saturday though. πŸ™‚

My 1st Review!

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane! The date is November 18th, 2012. The completely naive, under experienced and absolutely horrible book “reviewer” Octavia, has just hit “publish” on her very first blog review, Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter. It was short. It was random. It had typos (which I still haven’t fixed!). And above all it barely covered the damn book.

I won’t paste the entire review here but, here is a snippet of my embarrassment:

Apparently I am one of the few people who have not read Gena’s Lords of the Underworld series, and after reading Wicked Nights I can see that I have completely deprived myself of here genius. Zacharel was one of those creamsicle popsicles I use to love as a kid. Hard and cold on the outside but soft and extra sweet on the inside, and I loved him about as much as I did those popsicles as a kid. If only it was possible to see if he tasted just a good. Yep I definitely had that kind of relationship with Zacharel. If you just cringed at my completely appropriate suggestion to a fictional character, you read the book and tell me Zacharel didn’t leave you a little hot and bothered.

What is it about Zacharel that just made him oh so delicious? Let’s review:

  1. He is honest to a fault.
  2. He is bad ass with a FLAMING sword. Yep that’s right the sword is on fire.
  3. He knows what he wants and works to get that.
  4.  He is surface of the sun hot.

Does this make me shallow? Weak? Sex-craved? Maybe. Do I care? Nope, not one bit. But since you seem to care let me explain.

Box of Shame

See! I wasn’t always as awesome as I am now!

And this brings me to today’s discussion questions! Do you ever go back and cringe over some of your earlier reviews? If you could go back in time to 1 minute before you hit that “publish” button what would you tell yourself? If you’re feeling extra brave today link up your first review in the comments!

I know you didn’t think I was going to kick off my blogoversary without a giveaway?!

So the absolutely FABULOUS A.G. Howard was  a tad busy bringing more of my Morpheus to the world, so I couldn’t interview her. BUT! Oh and this but is magnificent in all of it’s ginormous glory. BUT! (yeah I had to say it again!) She showed her epic level of awesome and donated one SIGNED, paperback copy, of her limited FLIP BOOK edition of  Splintered/ Unhinged! That’s right folks! One of you lucky, and I do mean LUCKY, individuals is going to win this beauty!

*NOTE!*

This flip book edition has the FIRST CHAPTER of Unhinged. It is NOT. Again, IT IS NOT, two books in one. Also, no cheating! I shouldn’t have to say that but apparently I do.

  1. Creamsicle popsicles, yum! I like they too. Your first review is very good and entertaining. You’re right about the typos, but we all do that. My first review was short as it had nothing substantial. Though it was my favorite book of that time period. Here’s the link in all its shortness. Secret Review

I will always nervously remember my first reviews and all my reviews that I quickly wrote to have a post. I would say keep it as it is, its a learning experience and imperfection is perfectly okay.

  2. I only have one follower on my book blog!! LOL!! I have just been posting funny diary entries. I said if I get 10 followers, I will start doing actual book reviews, and I vowed Splintered would be the first. πŸ™‚

  3. Happy Blogoversary!! Haha, your first review is definitely much better than mine πŸ˜€ If I could go back, I’d probably delete 90% of my reviews (there are a few I like, actually).

EEEEEEEE Splintered and Unhinged! I’m waiting to see if I’ll get approved for Unhinged on NetGalley. And this makes me want to go and re-read Splintered… I’ll probably read it again after I finish the book I’m reading now. It’s SO good! And I miss Morpheus.

    Annnd again, happy blogoversary!

  5. Woot! Happy almost blogoversary! I think it is so awesome that you posted your first review even if you’re a bit embarrassed of it. I think it was fine πŸ™‚ I’ve still got a lot to learn, but I’m only past my half year point. Maybe soon I’ll be as awesome as you? lol!

  6. Happy blogoversary! Oh, the dreaded first review! Your’s isn’t that bad. We all make mistakes, we are human after all. Man I don’t even remember my first review. Oh I know what book it was sure, but I refuse to revisit it because I know it was absolute suckage of the worst kind!

I have yet to read Splintered….probably the only person who hasn’t.
