Stop & Chat Saturday

Stop & Chat is a weekly discussion post here at Read. Sleep. Repeat. where we talk about whatever tickles my fancy!

If you read that title and didn’t immediately remember this video you’re doing it wrong and yes, I truly am a 90’s kid.

Rap Boy

But ancient Eminem songs and awkward spandex aside, I’M BACK! Can we all take a sec just to happy dance? Yes? YES!

 will dancing2

Now that we all have that out of our systems…..I MISSED YOU ALL!! In fact, I missed you all so much that this week’s Stop & Chat I really just want to see how you all are. I’ve been gone for 2 weeks, and before that I was super busy with ARC August so I know I’ve been absolutely horrible with stoping by and visiting your blogs. So I want you to leave me comments filling me in, link up your favorite post from the past few weeks, tell me what new books you have! I genuinely want to know! And to kick off this info dump, let me tell you guys what I’ve been up to.

First I did what any other normal book nerd would do. I went to the Decatur Book Festival! It was so much fun, and I got to meet Michelle of In Libris Veritas , Tonyalee of Lily Bloom Books, Jessica of Lovin’ Los Libros and Christine of Reader of Fictions. All of whom were awesome to be around and chill with. Thanks for not making me feel like a super awkward penguin ladies! I also had the amazing pleasure of meeting Rick Yancy, D.J. McHale, Michelle Hodkin, Marie Rutkoski, Gennifer Albin and my favorite author:

And we happy danced in front of the entire audience because I feel no shame!

Then I became a couch potato!

Gotcha! My hiatus actually fell on the same week as Ayanna’s (my daughter’s) 5th birthday. We had a sleepover with our cousins, played games, made pizza, fought over popcorn, stayed up late and gave me constant heart attacks!

But once the party, and the BBQ we decided to throw the day AFTER the party, was over I was finally able to start my hiatus. And it kicked off quite lovely if I do say so myself! I sat down and binged watched season one, of one of the greatest shows ever:

Oh yeah! It was as awesome as you are imagining!

In between all that greatness, I somehow managed to finish Reboot by Amy Tintera (review scheduled for the 26th) and The Archived by Victoria Schwab (scheduled for the 19th). Both of these turned out to be “meh” reads to me but that’s ok! I picked up a few new books, and one of them is bound to blow me away right?!

I also found the time, energy and patience to start a new blog, My Clean Eating Adventure. I’m on a mission to eat better, and to help me stay accountable I decided to start a blog. And let me just say SUCKS! Oh my gosh, I will be moving to self hosted ASAP! But that’s a whole nother can of beans.

So what have you guys been up to? Leave your mini updates in the comments, and don’t forget to link one of your more recent post so I can visit!

  1. Good luck with your eating adventure. I don’t know if you have much/any outdoor space, but you might try growing some of your own vegetables. I started container gardening this spring. I grew lettuce, peas, green beans, tomatoes, and potatoes with varying results. This fall I’m doing lettuce, spinach, peas, and I’m planning on planting garlic when the nursery gets some in. It’s so much fun to watch them grow. Your daughter would probably love it. I’m already thinking ahead to spring and planning what I want to grow next year.

  2. Welcome back! It was awesome to meet you too, I wish I could have made it for the second day though. I ended up getting sick late Saturday night, which I think I’m allergic to the sun or something. Even with crap loads of sunscreen, lol.
I’ve been working on my own diet…which basically eat everything insight but make sure there is 1 meat and 1 fruit each day. It’s actually easy because one of meds makes me eat constantly. Now I have vitamin D pills because (you’ll never guess) I don’t get a lot of sun…lol.
Anyway on the blog I actually started doing discussion posts! I put my first one up this week, it’s about my inability to DNF a book:

  3. Haha I started singing the song as soon as I saw the title.

I’m so excited your back. With excellent gif usage.

I haven’t been up to much. I started a new, full-time, Mon-Fri, grown up job, and while I have reading time (2 1/2 bus ride each way) I do not have time to actually write reviews so that’s sad, and it’s only going to get worse once school starts.

I’m so jealous you got to go to Decatur. I’ve heard that it was amazing fun. Plus Bardugo was there and I love her so much. I’m so glad you go to meet and happy dance with her.

Her cake turned out so gorgeous.

What did you pick up. I have such a huge stack to read before October. Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer, The Dream Thieves, Ricochet, A Wounded Name, Omens, Cinder and Amber House and I’m both excited and overwhelmed.

  4. YES! As soon as I thought up the title I couldn’t help but sing this song!

Congrats on your grown up job and sorry time is so tight! I (not too long ago) was working 40hours a week and trying to balance that with family and blogging seemed impossible! But you’ll get into a groove before you know it.

I bought The Coldest Girl in Coldtown and Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, then I grabbed Cinder, Scarlet, Defiance, Legend, Alice in Zombieland and insomnia from the library! I’m hoping I’ll be able to binge read Cinder and Scarlet soon. You’ll have to tell me how Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer is, because I so want my hands on that one!

  5. Oooooooooh I love Alice in Zombieland. I hope you enjoy it!

I really want to read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown too but I keep putting it off because the authors books are so hit or miss with me.

I need to pick up Scarlet next payday. I’m meeting the author at Wordstock next month and I want to have at least read her books.

    I’ll definitely let you know.

  6. Guess who’s back… Back again? Octavia’s back. Tell a friend! HAHA! I was about two years old when the 90’s ended, but Eminem <3 Anyway WELCOME BACK!! And I am so glad that you found your vacation productive, especially with Ayanna's birthday(oh what a CUTE name!). And it's so cool that you got to meet some bloggers and even Leigh! Totally jelly right now. So anyway, glad you had fun, and I'm glad you're back! We all are 🙂 I missed Stop and Chat :p

  7. Welcome back! I’m glad to hear your hiatus was good and you had some time to read and watch up with other stuff!! For some reason even if the title was clearly another song, the Eminem song that has got stuck in my head is “The Real Slim Shady”… my brain works oddly!

I’ve been trying to keep on mixing the blogging with the full time job and some social life (never an easy task) and now that the weather is getting cooler I got the baking bug back, so I’m gonna be baking new cupcake flavors! Sometimes I find that blogging gets in the way of reading and reading in the way of blogging, but I’m managing! Also, I decided to challenge myself so I joined the September is for Sequels challenge!

  8. You missed me so much that you called Christina from A Reader of Fictions, Christine. Aww. *hugs you tightly* I have missed you too! I am surprised that you are still alive after being in the same breathing space of Bardegu lady. And Ayanna’s birthday cake was so cute! I am always a couch potato, so I cannot comment on that… haha. WELCOME BACK! TELL A FRIEND.

  9. Yay, I’m so glad you’re back! 😀 I don’t have as much time for visiting blogs as I’d like anymore but I’m for sure stopping by to say hello for your return! (High five for Fresh Prince gif.)

I actually went an entire week of your absence without posting anything! 😡 I was just too busy and tired to muster up words and skipped the week. This past week I’ve done a bit better, and got a few posts out there again. I talked about my favorite reading spot, joined another readathon, and made a silly post about spam.

How was your time off?! I know one of the weeks was nuts but I see you went to a book festival, and had a party! Yay Ayanna’s cake looks so adorable. ^_^ I can’t wait to go through your clean eating blog. I’ll leave you some comments on there with any tips I can think of!

  10. *high five* 😀

A full week huh? School and work taking up a lot of your time I’m assuming? It’ll get better eventually, I’m sure but that does suck. 🙁

The clean eating blog isn’t much right now, but I am pretty proud. When you start dropping tips, I may actually squeal a bit. 🙂

  11. Yes, football season is to blame! My restaurant is right next to the Superdome so when the Saints have home games I get swamped. It wouldn’t be so bad if there were two pastry chefs but I do all the desserts for the restaurant. o_o And with Restaurant Week having just gone by and a menu change imminent (not to mention two home games this week and next), I’m going to get my butt kicked some more! It’s been non stop for a couple of weeks now.

Somehow I managed to find the time to pick up What’s Left of Me regardless of all that and lemme tell you, it’ so hard to put that book down when I have to!

I will get over to the clean eating blog soon. I want to make sure I allot myself enough time to leave you some good comments. 🙂

  12. After trying both and Blogger, I’d say that Blogger’s better. But if you’re absolutely lazy, then will be fine because there’s the option of using a post for a template.

And hello, giant squid of anger! Missed you too! *hugs*

  13. Welcome back, though I’ve been keeping up with your tweets so you weren’t really gone 🙂
We’ve posted 6 or so reviews in the past few weeks but what I really think you should check out is our latest post for our weekly meme that we run, and maybe think about joining it. I think you’d like it 🙂 It is called “That’s What HE Said Thursday” and we post quotes from the dude!

  14. Welcome back Octavia!! You should have known better about That stuff is all sorts of messed up!

I loved following the birthday party happenings through Instagram. 🙂 So cute and everyone looked to have a great time.

I have taken your and Steph’s suggestions and started using Evernote to schedule and write my
Blog posts. I am also attempting to post everyday. *cringes* The first week didn’t go so well, but I’m trying.

The biggest undertaking I took on over the last two weeks is my YA Starter Pack giveaway. It’s huge. The biggest giveaway I’ve sponsored my self so far. Check it out at Why I Read YA!

    Glad to see you back!

  15. I know! I’ve heard about the horribleness that is but I didn’t want to splurge on a domain just yet. BIG MISTAKE!

Thank you! Those kids ran me ragged but they had so much fun it was totally worth it! Won’t be doing it again any time soon, but it was a different kind of fun.

How are you liking Evernote so far? I’m trying to start using it for meal planning but, I’ve been too busy! And don’t worry! I “plan” to post every day too. Doesn’t always happen, but the world hasn’t ended yet so no biggie. 🙂 I’ll check the giveaway out now!

  16. Welcome back!! Your hiatus sounds pretty awesome.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about WordPress, so I’m a little surprised to hear you didn’t like it. I’m still “new” to blogging and all I’ve ever used is Blogger, but I’m really satisfied with it.

    Here’s my most recent post:

It’s a discussion about target audiences and judging people who don’t fit in them. Let me know what you think!

  17. Oh no! is fantastic! But sucks eggs. I was with blogger when I first started but I have issues with their terms and conditions (they could delete my blog if I didn’t comply perfectly!) so I moved to and haven’t looked back! 😀

  18. Welcome Back!! 🙂

Since we haven’t really talked since the festival- I had to much fun hangin out with you 😛

It’s been pretty crazy here over the past few weeks– but it usually is anyway, so that’s nothing new. 🙂

I was using for about 6 months before self hosting. I didn’t think it was THAT bad. But I guess that just depends on what you want to do with it. I am glad I “upgraded” because I can do SO MUCH MORE now. 🙂

Anyhoo- Glad you have a nice, semi-relaxing Hiatus!
