ARC August Update #1!

August 4, 2013 Challenges 30

Well we’ve made it through the first 4 days of August and I’m really impressed by all of you who are kicking ass with the ARC August challenge! Let me update you lovelies on how my first ARC August weekend went!

I finished……ZERO books!

Aladdin panic

Despicable me panic

stay fucking calm

Ha! That made me laugh….a lot! But seriously I’m not freaking out. I started Undeadly but the writing made me want to shove icepicks in my eyes and I really wasn’t in a fantasy mood for Surrender so I picked up The Sweetest Dark (which is touch and go good right now), and I’m working through it. On the plus side my dad, mom (#2) and baby brother came down from Ohio so the weekend wasn’t a lost. I had a ton of fun with them and I scored 93 points in bowling! Which, in case you didn’t know, is a record high for me!

I did get my review of The Marriage Merger up though so that’s one thing I can check off. And I’ve met some AMAZING peeps thanks to this challenge. Speaking of amazing peeps I want to spotlight someone who is seriously kicking all the butt so far!

The awesome mind (and my great friend) behind Scott Reads It! This whippersnapper has finished 5 ARC’s so far!

5 books people!

Can we get a round of applause?!

WooHoo to you sweets! Woohoo!

This week, though I’m putting the gloves on and gearing up to blow through some of these books! I’m hoping to finish:

The Sweetest Dark The Deepest Nights Blush

So how did your first 4 days go? Are you behind like me or kicking all the butt like Scott Reads It? Link up your updates below so I can stop by and see your progress!

I’m not even going to link up my “progress” this time because it’s bleak. Like you I have finished ZERO arcs 🙁 I always come out of the gates so excited and then… nothing lol. Did you mean Undeadly by Michelle Vail? If so… I know exactly what you mean. I wanted to stab myself in the foot reading it, the main character is a disaster lol. I hope this coming week is much better for your Octavia 🙂 Happy Reading!!

Yep, I was talking about Undeadly by Michelle Vail. It just seems like she’s trying too hard to make the characters sound “young”! I mean, I get trying to make it seem palpable, but I seriously felt like I was losing brain cells while reading those first few chapters!

And no worries! zero isn’t that bad right? Right! Besides it’s only been 4 days! We can turn that around by the 30th!

I didn’t finish anything either! I did grab two books at the library that were on my back log so I can read them and free up my Kindle for another book. I wasn’t fond of Undeadly either to be honest, so I’m not surprised you decided against it.
    WOW, 5 books?! *bows* lol

Also that is one of my favorite Supernatural episodes. We should totally go bowling together because I always hit around 95 score wise, I’m so freaking bad at it. 😛

Ugh I miss the library! It’s the only bad thing about only having one car! Now I can’t just go to the library when I want.

And yeah he is kicking all the butt so far, but I’ll catch up. 🙂

Maybe when can go bowling towards the end of this month or end of next month?

Nope. Haven’t finished yet. I did start a book on Saturday, but the amount of time I envisioned I had to read it, didn’t quite work out that way. lol We got this though! = )

I’m not going to make an actual post until the end of August, as a wrap up, but… Yesterday I finished two books! It had taken me a long, long time to get through them because I was either uninterested or thought they were terrible. Sometimes both. The Night of the Comet I had been really excited about because it’s set in southern Louisiana, not far from where I live, and has a lot of astronomy in it. It took me from July 21st to August 4th to read it and I ended up giving it 2 stars – not horrible, just not for me. Mighty Spice Express Cookbook I was really excited about because the cover is gorgeous and I love spicy food and it listed some fabulous countries as research/influences (Thailand, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, India, Mexico, Turkey, and Morocco). It took me from July 29th to August 4th to read that one, which should have been 2 days max since it was a cookbook. I think I spent more time taking notes about what I disliked in the book than I did actually reading it. It ended up with a 1 star rating, which is pretty terrible.

But yesterday… Yesterday! I had to play ARC roulette and hope I picked a good book to make up for those two baddies that had dragged me through so many days. I picked up Lives of Magic. I feel like the writing could be much better – it feels a bit too much like a book geared towards early teens. But the story is interesting and I’m enjoying it, and find I keep wanting to read to see what happens next. So I will have to say that’s a win for me.
